Waste collection

Perenco plays an active part in helping keep the streets of Muanda clean by partnering the NGO Bunkete (which means "cleanliness" in Lingala.)

The project, which started in February 2009, involves the collection and incineration of waste in the city of Muanda. The initial contract was for a one year partnership between the local administration and Perenco.

To date, equipment has been bought by Perenco and supplied to Bunkete; a new waste disposal facility has been created at Perenco's initiative, with all the necessary local and environmental permissions granted; and two large waste disposal containers have been put at the community's disposal.

Bunkete employs 10 people, and is now extending its collection network and waste treatment capability to process compost, which should bring revenues and help create new jobs. Compared with other cities in the country, Muanda is now one of the cleanest.
