Offshore

The offshore fields are mature: the remaining reserves at the end of 2008 represent less than 10% of the initial reserves. They are estimated every year by an independent body.

Perenco's offshore focus has been on a selection of key fields with the greatest reserves: Tshiala, Mibale, Motoba.

The strategy was:

  • To produce the Tshiala wells with electrical pumps and to conduct maintenance as necessary in order to prolong their production
  • To carry out the necessary well work to restart secondary recovery from the Mibale and Motoba wells which were no longer producing.
  • To maintain water injection at Tshiala, Mibale and Motoba and increase the injection rate to 70 000 barrels per day (compared to 30 000 before) by optimising the onshore and offshore facilities and a supply of fresh water.
  • To re-evaluate the seismic data using the latest technology to fully understand the potential of the offshore concession.

In 2007/2008 Perenco demonstrated its ability to develop offshore projects when production from the Tshiala project increased by 4 500 bopd.
